Funding Opportunity For Apprenticeship Expansion in Key Industry Sectors

The U.S. Department of Labor announced $150 million in grants to support sector-based approaches to expand apprenticeships on a national scale in key industry sectors. When awarded, the grants will move a step closer to increasing the number of apprentices in the U.S. across all industries.

YCC Students Take Initiative to Create Mentoring Program

At Academy of Finance (AOF) in Como Park High School (St. Paul, Minnesota), some vigilant seniors noticed that freshmen were having difficulty with socialization and adjusting to high school. They wanted to help. After brainstorming some solutions, these motivated students suggested a senior-freshman mentoring program.  The idea was implemented on a pilot basis in AOF. It paired each freshman with a senior mentor, some serving more than one mentee.

Apple Valley High School Wins National STEM Excellence Award

ROSEMOUNT, Minn. – Apple Valley High School received the 2019 STEM Excellence Award in the high school category at the national Future of Education Technology Conference in Orlando Jan. 30. The award recognizes schools for their innovative approaches to implementing science, technology, engineering and math education.

Youth CareerConnect: Early Implementation Findings

The purpose of this report is to explore implementation of YCC about two years after funding began. The report draws information from five sources: (1) a grantee survey describing YCC as it was implemented in one of its schools, (2) grantees’ quarterly progress report narratives, (3) visits to 10 grantees, (4) YCC’s Participant Tracking System, and (5) a survey of parents and students in YCC in 8 of the grantees visited.
